Whitehorse is known as the wilderness city because of all the trails and outdoor pursuits in the surrounding areas.  Take a short drive along Schwatka Lake to Miles Canyon, walk across the Robert Lowe suspension bridge and discover Canyon City.  Well, it was a city in the Gold Rush days but is now a peaceful spot along the Yukon River.   Whitehorse is sorrouded by several lakes, each with trails.  Walk in the summer; cross-country ski in the winter.  There is also lots to do in the downtown area.  Visit Fireweed Community Market in Shipyards Park (Thursday in the summer), take a guided historical walk, visit the MacBride museum.  And be sure to check out the SS. Klondyke and take the guided tour offered by Parks Canada. Drive up to the highway and find the Berengia Centre, with reminders of Yukon in the ice age.  Book some extra time for your Yukon venture as there is much to see and do even in Whitehorse and the surrounding area.
