To get to Kusawa Lake, drive north along the Alaska Highway for approximately 65 kms. (This is in the same direction as Haines Junction but it would be too much to visit Kusawa Lake on the way to Haines Junction). It is a very scenic drive with viewpoints along the way.  Turn left at the signpost for Kusawa Lake onto a gravel road.  You will follow the Takhini River.  There is a spot where canoeists put their canoes into the water and close by a pond where you might see swans in the spring or Fall.   Fifteen  kms from where you turned off, you will arrive at the Takhini River campground.  The main campsite is another 8 kms along the road.  There is a serious hike (Kusawa Ridge) near this campground with great views of the lake.  As you might guess, Kusawa Lake is a widening of the Takhini River.  Take plenty of water and a picnic as there are no services.
