The Fish Lake Road is a few kilometres north of Whitehorse. The road is paved for a fair distance and then becomes gravel but it is well maintained. The road follows MacIntyre Creek up to Fish Lake (about 17 kms). It rises a fair bit and you will have splendid views of the Yukon River valley on your way back down. Turn off briefly at MacIntyre Creek (on the left across from Icy Waters) to watch bird banding in the summer or just to watch birds along the Copper access road. At this spot the creek becomes marshland and is home to lots of birds. As Fish Lake is at a higher altitude than Whitehorse, it can be cool even on a warm day. Bring a sweater. There are no services so bring a picnic and water especially if you plan to hike the trail that climbs above the lake.
